For younger folk, under the age of 11 there is the exciting and fun approach to mindfulness meditation created by www.relaxkids.com.
About five years ago I was looking for a way to share the tools of mindfulness with Hebe, my niece who is now eight! I did the teacher training with Relax Kids and since then hold regular Relax Kids classes in the local area.
A Relax Kids class is perfectly balanced to sow the seeds of meditation through play and imagination. The structure of the class enables and empowers the kids to explore, experience and sustain mindful ways of being. From playing games, stretching, massaging, sharing positive affirmations, breathing and finally lying down – once the excited energy has been a little released!
It is a priviledge to see how the kids who have been attending the group for a number of years are implementing the tools shared when they feel anxious, sad or angry. I feel very honoured to hold the space wherein they can explore the tool of mindfulness at this young age.
